About the PartnershipTexas A&M University - Commerce Teacher Center at Eastfield : Why Eastfield? A significant number of the community college students transferring to Texas A&M University-Commerce, come from Eastfield College in Mesquite. The two schools have a long-standing partnership in serving higher education in the area. With that history and partnership, this program enhances the service to students by establishing an even stronger presence (at Eastfield) and better assisting students interested in all majors at Texas A&M University-Commerce. The Texas A&M-Commerce Teacher Center Director is an employee of Texas A&M University-Commerce, but housed full-time at Eastfield College. Given the significant number of potential teachers who take their “core” courses in the community college, and particularly the number of minority students enrolled in these community college courses, the community college setting appears to be a particularly critical juncture for recruiting and developing an increased supply of teachers. In fact, the community college link is among the most fruitful components of a strong teacher development initiative.
