Y'all asked for a page of links to sites, check out "Web Pages"
over in the left, navigation bar. You also asked to be able to rate and
recommend text books...check out the "Text Ratings" link.
OK, summer is over and we still need some book reviews. I am
sure you folks are reading, so let's share our thoughts.
This has been a busy summer. We have several new resources that
will help you teach and learn Unix. Among them are Professor
Matloff's tutorial series, Professor Griffin's series of
courses from Cabrillo college. These in addition to our current
collection of outstanding resources.
Please forward any links to either places we can mirror, or link to,
we will just keep making this better and better with your help.
Another way to help us is to contribute your
teaching materials to the community. To add your materials to our site,
activate the contribution link and follow the instructions on that page.
We can only succeed with your help and support. Welcome to CRISP,
it is your site, and we are here for you.
Ken Frazer contributed his complete set of Unix I slides. If you have
been waiting for a "Pre-packaged" Unix I class, you can
combine Ken's notes with the North Lake Syllabus, first edition, and
all you have to write are tests and labs! Thanks Ken!
This link will
send you to Ken's Unix I slides.
In addition, Ken has now added his complete set of Unix II slides
in both PowerPoint and StarImpress formats!
Combining these slides with the Unix II syllabus for North Lake
will enable you to offer both Unix I and Unix II and all you
will need to do is write the labs and tests. Again, thanks to
Ken!!
These links take you to Ken's
Star Office or
Power Point
slides for Unix II.
A New Resource
Poking around the Net I ran into the
Computer Hope site.
They have graciously allowed us to link to their various
pages that discuss Unix and Unix commands,
the history of both Unix and Linux,
some of the Linux/Unix variants, and some useful Unix/Linux
resources. If you explore their site a bit, I know you will
find really interesting and useful information. We thank
Computer Hope for their interest and support. (I have
included their links on the links page.)
What is a System Administrator?
Many of us are trying to help our students become system administrators.
During that process, most students want to know "What does a system
administrator DO?" Here is a partial answer.
Please consider this list as a beginning, and let us know what should be
on the list that isn't, and what is on the list that doesn't belong.
Thanks!
